A Day In The Life At Puerta Azul

OUR HOUSE REEF SNORKEL SITES

The Nursery
About 300′ north-east of the dock lies a small sand patch known as the nursery. From the edge of the dock, swim towards the nursery while keeping an eye out for colorful critters camouflaged within the turtle grass. Once you reach the sandy patch, you’ll discover an underwater world teeming with juvenile fish and cleaning stations.

Pro Tip: After exploring the nursery, head towards the main reef (right before the waves break), where the seascape transforms into a mesmerizing reef wall.

Spooky Channel
What was once an ancient waterfall during the ice age is now our most popular snorkel site! Spooky Channel is a renowned underwater canyon that begins in the shallows of a lagoon before opening into a network of canyons in the reef. These deep cuts are ripe for exploring, and eventually lead you to the 200′ drop at the edge of the wall. A remarkable area to look into the blue for turtles and rays.

Pro Tip: To reach Spooky Channel from the shore, you will want to bring along a kayak or paddleboard.

The Bay Islands are a beloved and fiercely protected marine reserve. While visiting our home, remember to act responsibly and think sustainably. Wear reef friendly sun protection, avoid touching the reef, and do not remove anything from the ocean.
