Deep Sea Fishing
In Roatan, the most common type of fishing on a boat is trolling from the boat outside the reed. Trolling is a method of fishing where one or more fishing lines, baited with lures or bait fish, are drawn through the water. The most common fish caught trolling in the seas of Roatan are tuna, mahi, wahoo and marlin.
Close in proximity to Puerta Azul, along the north coast of the island, you will find many flats boasting permit, bonefish and tarpon. These areas only accessible by shallow boat. Choose to catch your fish on the fly with no bait or with the help of crab (a local secret).
Bottom fishing for snapper is best for when you are aiming to eat your catch of the day! Our local captains can find the deep pockets surrounding the reef walls to lower the weighted rod to bring up the famous yellow eyed snapper.
